Plushwork (also known as German Tufted Wool or Amis Plushwork) is a 19th century style of clipped wool work that is done over a template.
You can do plushwork on just about any fabric surface you desire: a cotton tote bag, a velvet cushion cover, a wool tea cozy, etc. Feel free to bring any fabric item you prefer to decorate. Crewel needles and cardboard templates of various sizes will be offered free in the meetings. Templates range from 2.5″ to 5.25″.
If you would like a 9″ x 7″ plain canvas zipped pouch like the one shown in the Dec/Jan ASG newsletter, send in the coupon in the newsletter. If you would just like a template, please email Ginger Scott at firstname.lastname@example.org so she knows how many to bring.
You will need sharp scissors and needlepoint wools in the color(s) you want to work with. Using multiple colors makes a lovely effect. The piece in the photo uses Vineyard Marino wool in Gothic Grape, Paradise, Orange Burst and Blazing Sun. An appropriate-sized hoop can help get the design started on the template. you will need one big enough for the template plus about an inch although it is possible to work without one if you’re careful about your template placement. For the 9″ x 7″ zipper pouch, a 5.25″ template use with with a 6″ hoop.
Zipper pouch cost is $6. Deadline is January 18. See coupon in Dec/Jan ASG Newsletter.
