Pinball
By Kim Hollifield
Pinballs have been used for hundreds of years for holding straight pins.
With the recent interest in Quaker samplers, there has been a renewed interest
in pinballs. Although many antique pinballs are knitted, ours will be
cross-stitched on cranberry 28 ct. linen. The stitching will need to be
completed prior to class and all assembly of the pinball will occur during
class. The class fee includes a 6' x 12' piece of cranberry color linen, ribbon,
glass head pins and all materials needed to assemble the pinball. The
linen and stitching instructions will be mailed to class participants prior to
class. Kit fee $20.
Fantasy
Island
By John Waddell
This class explores the development of layering of
stitches ands colors to create an island of color and texture. Students
will have a choice of white or black burlap for their ground material. Cotton,
wool and a variety of
knitting yarns will be provided in the kit. Students may bring any additional
thread they can fit into a zip-lock sandwich bag. These threads are limited to
two (2) 24”
lengths for any single thread. In addition each student, may if they choose,
also bring two (2) 24” cut lengths of four (4) different “strange and sturdy”
knitting yarns that will be traded with other students. Students will be advised
about how many “trade kits” to make up for the class. My stitched samples were
stitched with only the thread kits that you will receive from the teacher. We
will first develop the island shape. Then we will develop different stitch
textures to add to the island. The students will be turned loose with no limits
or restrictions on execution. We will work together to open our minds, share our
ideas and let our creativity run wild! Here is your chance to have that fantasy
island of your own. Proficiency level-All Levels
